NWS Flash Flooding Watch

The Albuquerque office of the National Weather Service (NWS) has issued a flash flood watch for the Estancia Valley and Manzano Mountains beginning tomorrow at 12:00 PM through 12:00 AM, July 11, 2024. NWS expects rain to fall at a rate of two inches per hour, which could cause rapid runoff and flash flooding, particularly in areas still saturated from the recent floods.   • WHAT...Flash flooding caused by excessive rainfall is possible.
  • WHERE...Portions of central, northeast, and southeast New Mexico,
    including the following areas, in central New Mexico, Central
    Highlands, Eastern Lincoln County, Estancia Valley and South
    Central Highlands. In northeast New Mexico, Northeast Highlands.
    In southeast New Mexico, Southwest Chaves County.
  • WHEN...From Wednesday afternoon through Wednesday evening.
  • IMPACTS...Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers,
    creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations.
    Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS...
    • Torrential rainfall rates up to two inches per hour will
      create rapid runoff that can quickly produce flash flooding,
      particularly over saturated areas that have received multiple
      rounds of rainfall the last few weeks.
