Controlled Burn in Manzanos

The National Forest Service has listed a prescribed burn of 219 acres for today, May 26, 2023 on the Inciweb wildfire reporting system. The National Forest Service reports that the burn may be visible in the surrounding areas of Belen, the Estancia Valley, Los Lunas, Manzano, Mountainair, Punta de Agua, or the West Manzano portion of Rio Communities. The Dispatch does not know whether the high winds associated with the recent weather alert have impacted whether this burn has occurred. The controlled burn will occur near National Forest Road 253, which was also near the site of a recent search and rescue operation.
