Winter Weather Advisory in Effect for Sandia and Manzano Mountains Through Saturday Night

A Winter Weather Advisory has been issued by the National Weather Service in Albuquerque at 7:31 PM on Friday, April 18, 2025, for the Sandia and Manzano Mountains, including Edgewood and parts of Torrance County, remaining in effect until 11:59 PM MDT on Saturday, April 19, 2025.

Forecasters predict snow accumulations of 1 to 2 inches at lower elevations, with 2 to 5 inches expected above 7,500 feet. In addition to the snowfall, winds may gust up to 35 mph, which could create hazardous travel conditions and minor power disruptions.

Residents in Mountainair and across the Estancia Valley should be alert to deteriorating road conditions, especially along Interstate 40, where slushy and slick surfaces may develop. The combination of wet, heavy snow and gusty winds poses a risk to trees and power lines, increasing the potential for localized power outages in the area.

Drivers are encouraged to slow down, allow extra time for travel, and use caution on snow-covered roads. The New Mexico Department of Transportation provides updated road conditions at nmroads.com or by dialing 511 or 1-800-432-4269.
