Winter Weather Advisory Issued for Estancia Valley
The expected winter weather warning from the National Weather Service has arrived. The National Weather Service in Albuquerque has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for the Estancia Valley, including Mountainair, in effect until 12:00 PM MDT on Saturday, April 5, 2025. Snowfall and gusty winds are expected to impact travel and daily activities throughout the region.
Forecasters predict 1 to 3 inches of snow accumulation, accompanied by northeast winds gusting up to 40 mph. These conditions could lead to snow-packed or icy roads, particularly along Interstate 40 and other high-traffic corridors within the valley. Residents and travelers should plan for reduced visibility and hazardous driving conditions through the morning hours on Saturday.
Those in and around Mountainair should take precautions now by allowing extra time for travel, reducing speed on snow-covered roads, and ensuring vehicles are equipped for winter driving. Although snowfall amounts are modest, the combination of wind and freezing temperatures can make conditions deceptively dangerous.
To check the latest road conditions, drivers are advised to dial 511, call 1-800-432-4269, or visit nmroads.com.
For ongoing weather updates, residents should monitor the Albuquerque office of the National Weather Service and sign up for emergency alerts through Torrance County’s Department of Emergency Management Code Red system.
