Estancia Trustees Listen to Resident Complaints Regarding Allegedly Aggressive Dog
The Estancia Board of Trustees began its meeting with a moment of silence for Nastassia Chavez and her son, Micah Perea, who passed away in a car accident on September 13, 2024.
During the public comment period, Anthony Zamora expressed concern regarding alleged attacks from a neighbor's dog. He complained that Estancia's Animal Control Officer, William Teaney, was not doing his job and asserted that the dog should be shot. Zamora also complained regarding trash at his neighbor's residence. Zamora did not bring evidence supporting his allegations.
Police Chief Thomas Carter said that the police responded to 65 calls in September 2024, along with self-directed police responses. Carter also explained he was looking for an uninhabited building to use for close-quarters battle (CQB) training. Mayor Pro Tem Patrick Sanchez requested an increased police presence at Arthur Park due to allegations of inappropriate behavior. The Board of Trustees and Chief Carter swore in new Estancia Police Department officer Jordan Duran.
Finally, the Board of Trustees considered a resolution to approve accrual of sick leave by "non-seasonal part-time employees." The board unanimously approved this resolution.
